How to awaken the kids’ interest in puzzles: 7 tips that work

1.    Sit down next to your child, open the puzzle box and start assembling. When he sees his parents doing it, the child will be intrigued. He will also want to know what sort of magic helps each piece to take its place in the overall picture.

2.Say out loud each of your actions, explaining the way you’re going to put the pieces together in a picture. It’s important to voice all the hints that will help in the process – the shape and edge outlines must match, the colors and objects in the picture must correlate, and so on.

3.Ask your child for help. Involve him directly into participation, ask him to pass on this or that piece, let him put the pieces in where they fit. Ask him to find this or that detail, giving specific clues. When the child finds the necessary piece, shoveling a whole mountain of these, he will understand that things are not so complicated and will master the basic rules of puzzle assembling.

4.Every time your kid puts the piece in correctly, praise him, and don’t scold him if he doesn’t. Fear of making a mistake might discourage him from assembling the puzzle. If you always praise your child for success, he will have a motivation before the game and will try out new options to deserve your praise anew.

5.Choose the complexity of the puzzle taking into account your child’s level of development. If you give your kid a picture too complicated made of a whole lot of details, the child will be discouraged and will not want to play this game. In addition, he may become diffident, and this will negatively affect his psycho-emotional development.

6.If you started to assemble the puzzle together, do it together until you’re done. The final result will make your child feel proud for it. In addition, the pieces scattered all over will gradually make sense. That’s the way your kid will understand the connection between a part and the whole.

7.    When buying new puzzles, choose more complex and varied stuff. Thus, your child will face new tasks that he will want to solve. This will contribute to his emotional, social and physical development.
